Lussier Hot Springs

Rock-lined pools sit beside the Lussier River near the entrance to Whiteswan Lake Park. The combination of a cold mountain river, warm mineral water and a forested canyon explains the spring’s long-standing appeal. Photographs here show the site before the current closure.

Closed — and that is the headline

BC Parks identifies a closure at Lussier Hot Springs. Rockfall and retaining-wall concerns have been reported, and the site should not be entered unless the land manager explicitly reopens it. Searches for Lussier have surged, and a good deal of the material circulating online predates the closure, so check the park advisory rather than a travel blog.

No visitor hours are confirmed while the closure stands. If it reopens, the park's current advisories are where that will be announced first.

What the site is, when open

Lussier is a set of rock-lined pools terraced down the bank of the Lussier River, near the entrance to Whiteswan Lake Provincial Park on a forest service road east of Canal Flats. Reported pool temperatures grade from roughly 47 °C in the uppermost basin to around 34 °C at the river's edge, with the cold river immediately to hand.

It is a free, undeveloped provincial park spring — no admission, no change rooms, no supervision. Access is a short but moderately steep trail down from the roadside parking area, roughly half a kilometre.

Why it draws people

The appeal is the combination: genuinely hot water in rough stone basins, a cold river a step away, and no building anywhere in sight. That also explains the pressure the site is under — a small, unsupervised spring with a large audience, on a slope that has now proven unstable.

Our take

A memorable natural-pool setting, but the closure takes priority over its appeal. Keep it on a future research list rather than treating older trip reports as permission to enter.
