Three hours by boat from Bella Coola

Eucott Bay lies on the north side of Dean Channel near the north end of King Island, about 40 km northwest of Bella Coola — roughly three hours by boat. Access is by boat or float plane only.

What makes it a favourite among coastal cruisers is that the spring is essentially at the anchorage. The bay is shallow with firm holding for several boats in four to five metres, offering good shelter for small craft, and the spring sits right along the shore.

Clear water, no sulphur

Eucott is among the largest and best known springs on the central coast, and unusually it carries no sulphur smell — just clear hot water. That alone sets it apart from most of the coastal springs, several of which announce themselves well before you see them.

A secondary spring sits on the southwest side of the bay, about 150 metres in from the entrance near some rotting pilings. It reaches around 41 °C and is fed by several hot seeps near the high-tide mark, which means the tide is part of the equation for both temperature and depth.

You are not the only one using the bay

Grizzly bears and seals both frequent Eucott Bay, and bears forage along the shoreline where the springs are. That is part of the appeal and also a genuine consideration — keep food secured on the boat, stay aware while soaking, and do not leave anything edible ashore.

The springs are marked by pilings and easy to spot once you are in the bay.
