Boat access only, on Devastation Channel

Weewanie Hot Springs Park sits on the east side of Devastation Channel, roughly 38 km south of Kitimat in a semi-sheltered bay. It is a boat-access-only park — there is no road and no trail.

BC Parks lists the navigation references you will actually need: Marine Chart #3743 for Douglas Channel and NTS map sheet 103 H/10 for Devastation Channel. One mooring buoy is available in the bay.

Another volunteer bathhouse

The bath house was built in May 1992 by a group of volunteers sponsored by the Northern Aquanauts scuba dive club, with donations from Kitimat businesses. Like Bishop Bay further south, this is a facility that exists because local boaters and divers decided it should.

Alongside the spring and bath house there is a pit toilet, a picnic area and a campsite — enough to make an overnight stop comfortable, and nothing more.

Haisla territory, and recent protection

The park lies within the traditional territory of the Haisla First Nation, with Kitimat and Kitamaat Village the nearest communities.

Formal protection is recent: Weewanie was designated a provincial park on 20 May 2004, following recommendations from the Kalum Land and Resource Management Plan. Before that it was simply a known stop on the channel.

Opening hours & season

No verified visitor timetable

Access depends on land-manager permission, closures and local conditions. No published timetable should be interpreted as 24-hour access.

All times are local to the spring. Checked 2026-10-01; this is not a live opening-status display. Closure notices override regular hours.

Our take

A rewarding-looking stop for an existing marine itinerary, with a simple bathhouse rather than resort amenities. Its remoteness makes self-sufficiency essential.

Before you go
